10 Reasons Why You Should Go On A Solo Trip (or 10 More Articles You Can Read About Why)

You’ll find new ways to entertain yourself, express yourself, what makes you happy, reduce your stress. Eat pastries by the ocean, read a book on top of a mountain, drink wine by the campfire. You do you boo.

You booked the wrong date for the campsite, now what? You’re lost on the trail, now what? Two different sandwiches look equally as tasty, now what? Before I left on my trip, I had the hardest time making decisions, big to small. And while deciding where I want to go for dinner will always be a hard decision, now I’m a bit better at making a choice I believe in without second-guessing myself constantly.

Maybe you’ll you find the answer to all life’s questions. Maybe you’ll find out what you’re really looking for. Maybe you’ll find out who you really want to spend your time with. Get to know yourself.

When you’re traveling alone, it’s easier to connect with other people. I found this out on a previous trip through Denver but in almost every city I stopped in, I was able to connect with someone. Campers in the next tent over, other solo people at the restaurant or bar, someone from the internet who read about your trip and wants you to stop by (could be creepy, use caution). A lot of people want to make connections, sometimes they want someone to have a real conversation with, sometimes they just want to know what you’re even doing there.

I never thought I’d find myself climbing a frozen waterfall or sitting on the lawn at a jazz festival in Atlanta. People like to share something they’re passionate about with you. Take suggestions. Take offers. Learn something new!

Talk to strangers. Get lost in the woods. Say yes to something you’re scared of. Put yourself out there and experience life and all it has to offer.

You don’t have to stop in that touristy souvenir shop. You don’t have to go to that bar with awful music. You don’t have to eat any weird meat (unless you want to of course). Change your plans whenever you want. You get to do what YOU want!

Feel like eating a third pastry? Go right ahead. Want to stay in for the night? No problem. Wearing socks with sandals? Have at it! Traveling solo means no judgements from friends or partners on some of your questionable choices. You only answer to yourself. And maybe a strange look from passing wildlife.

Maybe your previous traveling partners would prefer not to eat pb&j sammies for weeks on end. Maybe they wouldn’t want to sleep in a tent on the ground out in the elements. Maybe you wouldn’t get coaxed into buying that jacket you really don’t need. Luckily when it’s just you, you can be as frugal as you want! Plus, couchsurfing and staying with friends is a lot easier when only one person needs a sofa to sleep on.

Maybe it’s just the introvert in me saying this… but there’s also plenty of other people saying it too I swear. If you're bored, then you're boring. Be hungry for more adventure. Experience culture shock. Get homesick and realize it's a positive. Plus, plenty of people will keep in touch with you as well, technology will make sure of it!
